Klaas VERPLANCKE

Klaas' work always display the qualities that characterize him as an illustrator, animator and designer: a sense of humor that can vary from mild to sardonic, a poetic imagination, a preference for illustrating abstract concepts and universal emotions – and a sideways, surrealistic view of reality.

Biography

"...the wonderful Klaas Verplancke..." © Stefan Sagmeister

“ BANG! is the best artist’s promotion on the seven seas, and to do so with such a high level of design class makes him a hero. Klaas Verplancke earns his place in the illustration pantheon.”

“Klaas's stripped-down witty language is written with sad humour, light seriousness and raw finesse. He makes every impossible possible, effective, fast and professional.”

“Hi Klaas, I can’t wait to use these!”
© Nicholas Blechman, Creative Director at The New Yorker

"Klaas' deceptively simple illustrations exhibit a physicality that manages to work seamlessly in print and digital. There is a weirdness in his forms and a wit to his ideas that is endlessly relatable and endearing." © Tonya Doughy, Art Director at The New York Times

“I’m always pleasantly surprised by the variety of Klaas’s work. While he has a recognizable style, he adapts quite nicely to concepts that go outside the norm. I look forward to each new solution.”

“Magritte, Hergé, Ensor, Broodthaers, Ever Meulen — the list of weird and wondrous Belgian artists is long and varied. Add to it the name Klaas Verplancke. Verplancke’s work is strange, yet strangely comforting. Beautifully crafted, and beautifully bonkers.” © Steven Guarnaccia

"Klaas achieved a combination of warmth and whimsy, and I appreciate his color sensibility and commitment to craft." © Ola Baldych, Design Director Poster House museum New York

“Gripping, inventive and always unexpected pieces of art and critical thinking. The only risk we take at the Green European Journal is for Klaas’ work to simply steal away entirely the attention of our readers.” © Laurent Standaert Editor-in-Chief of The Green European Journal
